VitraHaus x Artek Helsinki - post-corona getaway
Vitra is celebrating its 10th anniversary for VitraHaus - a concept to merge their flagship store together with Vitra Home Collection.
Sadly, the past 1.5 years have been limited due to the COVID-19 outbreak for celebrations of all sorts, which has required adaptation from every one of us. Vitra’s take to dodge this was plain and simple: having the anniversary installation at a remote location - Artek Helsinki flagship store.
Artek was kind enough to invite us over to see what the installation is all about, which is now delivered from our end in digital form. If you’re based in Helsinki, make sure to pay a visit, the exhibition is up and running until the 4th of September and remains truly unique, giving the authentic experience that VitraHaus has to offer in Weil am Rhein.
A bit more than a decade ago, a Swiss-based architectural office Herzog & de Meuron, was assigned for a mission - to design a new storefront for Vitra’s exclusive work of furniture and design. The project started in 2009 and a couple of years later, the end result came about in 2011 (following the imprint in 2016 with Vitra Schaudepot).
Ever since the doors were initially opened, VitraHaus has served its visitors on daily basis, no matter whether it was a typical Monday, Sunday, or Christmas Eve, the design staple has been open throughout the year. However, the doors are now closed for the said exhibition due to the aberrant state of the world.
One of the masterminds behind the renovation is Vitra’s own Director of Scenography, Till Weber. According to Vitra’s ideology, home is like a collage, where layers of different furniture, light and interior create a unique trialogue.
Safe to say the latter statement is true by the execution of the exhibition. We’re honoured to showcase the installation from our lenses, see the photo gallery below.
Even though the installation at Artek flagship store was amazing, we truly hope the next VitraHaus anniversary can be held at its original location. However, this is a solid simulation of getting the authentic feeling of visiting the VitraHaus, so make sure to stop by at Artek Helsinki before the exhibition ends.
PS. Our team was lucky enough to visit the main campus during Vitra Summer Party along with the release of Vitra’s & Virgil Abloh’s “TWENTYTHIRTYFIVE” collection - in case you missed it, peep the link to check it out what it was all about and head over to HYPEND’s Instagram Story Highlights to see how the event was!
